چکیده

Background In new diagnoses of left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction it is important to exclude coronary artery disease (CAD) as the cause. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging using late gadolinium enhancement (LGE CMR) highlights fibrosis from ischaemia or infarcts in a subendocardial distribution. Many consider that the absence of LGE indicates an absence of significant CAD. The evidence for this is debatable, with variable sensitivities depending upon the definition of CAD, the patient population, and the use of proximal coronary artery imaging (MRCA). We strived to ascertain the utility of LGE CMR to exclude prognostic CAD.

Late gadolinium enhancement CMR in primary mitral regurgitation.

AIMS The appropriate timing for surgery in severe asymptomatic primary mitral regurgitation (MR) remains controversial. It has been shown that late gadolinium enhancement on cardiovascular magnetic resonance (LGE CMR), which may identify myocardial fibrosis, is associated with a worse outcome in various cardiomyopathies. We sought to investigate the prevalence and significance of delayed enhanc...

Differentiation of heart failure related to dilated cardiomyopathy and coronary artery disease using gadolinium-enhanced cardiovascular magnetic resonance.

BACKGROUND Heart failure treatment depends partly on the underlying cause of the disease. We evaluated cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) for the problem of differentiating dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) from left ventricular (LV) dysfunction caused by coronary artery disease (CAD). METHODS AND RESULTS Late gadolinium enhancement with CMR was performed in 90 patients with heart failure and...

Focal myocardial fibrosis assessed by late gadolinium enhancement cardiovascular magnetic resonance in children and adolescents with dilated cardiomyopathy

BACKGROUND Different patterns of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) including mid-wall fibrosis using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) have been reported in adult patients presenting with non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). In these studies, LGE was associated with pronounced LV remodelling and predicted adverse cardiac outcomes. Accordingly, the purpose of our study was to determi...

Myocardial tissue characterisation with late gadolinium enhancement in rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and systemic sclerosis

Background Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and systemic sclerosis (SSc) commonly involve the cardiovascular system, and are associated with high morbidity and mortality. Mechanisms of cardiovascular disease (CVD) involvement in these clinical entities are not fully understood. Furthermore, little is known about myocardial structure and function in these inflammator...

Impact of unrecognized myocardial scar detected by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging on event-free survival in patients presenting with signs or symptoms of coronary artery disease.

BACKGROUND Contrast-enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) can determine the extent of myocardial scar from infarction (MI). However, the prognostic significance of unrecognized myocardial scar by CMR in patients without a history of MI is unknown. METHODS AND RESULTS One hundred ninety-five patients without a known prior MI underwent CMR for assessment of left ventricular (LV) fun...
